About Griffin Motors

GRIFFIN MOTORS have been in the Volvo family since 1971, however, founders Frank & Valmai Griffin started in Morpeth in the late 1940's repairing ‘just about anything' with an engine.

The association with Volvo actually started in 1968, when long time customers local transport operators Doug Lawler and Darcy O'Connor, purchased a Volvo F86 each through Truck Sales & Service at Mascot.

In 1971 Volvo Australia appointed Frank as its Service & Parts Dealer for Newcastle and the Hunter Valley area. The Salesperson for Truck Sales appointed was Danny Armstrong working out of the office at Morpeth.

As business grew, a decision was made to relocate the workshop to Metford Road, East Maitland

and in 1983 a new complex was built on Chelmsford Drive, East Maitland, just around the corner from the busy New England Highway, East Maitland.

This location being central to both the Pacific Highway and New England Highway intersection at Hexham. Also suited for the regions diverse coal mining operations, milk haulage, logging and local distribution. Bus and coach operators are also serviced from our complex.

Our complex at East Maitland includes a drive-thru service bay, and wash bay area, shower and rest room facility, with a ‘drivers own' kitchen (with their own cup) to wait while their truck or bus is being serviced.

Personnel have played a major role in the success of Griffin Motors -since Frank's sudden death in 1989, Val has succeeded as Dealer Principal and team echo's the established commitment to customer service.

Reliability through everyday activities include preventative maintenance schedules, 24hr breakdown roadside & onsite service, quality aftermarket parts including exchange components, accessories & trailer repairs.

However, in 2002 Volvo's direction changed & Griffin Motors lost the Volvo franchise.

2004 saw Griffin Motors joining Scania Australia as a Service & Parts Dealer for Newcastle & Hunter area. This would not have been possible without our loyal customers and staff. We look forward to the future in the regions heavy vehicle industry, as the leading Swedish Truck Specialist.

With this commitment for service excellence we are planning for the future.
